“Decorating golden rule: Live with what you love.” -unknown
One of my favorite things to do when I decorate is mixing new with old, antique with contemporary and abstract with classic.
I'm HUGE on mixing modern art pieces with a french antique sofa or chair. No one ever said you had to stick to one style when you're designing a space. In decorating you can NEVER make a mistake, unless... you have no idea how to pair colors, then you're in for some trouble.
Mixing pieces, new and old gives your space a fresh flare. As if your giving the old pieces a chance to be new again and live again, while making the new modern, more contemporary pieces, look not so harsh or overwhelming.
I love each space above, how they incorporate different aspects of style.
The fist picture on the left is pretty plain and simple, what makes it pop and become a "wow" space are the modern hanging light fixtures, not just one light but four of them side by side to make a statement. Those light fixtures are literally the focal point of the space. Transforming it from ordinary and plain into extradorinaiy.
If you know me, you should know by now I LOVE monochromatic and basically all shades of white and muted grey (I know, weird). What makes this space so unique is how they did a very detailed enriched portrait and frame alongside a more classic antique chair with a modern table and lamps.
I'm not a fan a yellow by any means but last picture has me screaming and giddy for sunshine. Everything in this space just screams magnificent. French couch, modern chairs, abstract painting with an antique statue... yes please. If this isn't enough proof that you can mix and match different color pallets and design styles, I don't know what is.
Don't be afraid to mix and match pieces as long as you have love for your space it will come out as beautiful as the intention you had set for it.
